NPAPI plugins have been recently depreciated by most mainstream web browsers such as Google Chrome, Outlook, and Firefox. Currently, our team is pursuing a solution to this, however, as a primary means of accessing the web user interface for your Amcrest device, we recommend using either Internet Explorer or Safari. Most modern browsers have withdrawn the support for NPAPI-based plug-ins. In addition, mobile browsers and new-age desktop browsers, such as Microsoft Edge, don’t support NPAPI-based plugins. The following table summarizes the support for NPAI-based plug-ins by browser vendors. There is a special version of Firefox that still supports NPAPI plugins. From the How-To-Geek: Mozilla ended support for traditional NPAPI browser plugins, aside from Flash, with Firefox 52 on March 7, 2017. However, Mozilla offers an “Extended Support Release”, or ESR, branch of the Firefox browser. NPAPI plugins are not supported on Microsoft's new browser Edge. Google Chrome developed Chrome Native Messaging in order to interact with an executable installed on the computer provided its link on the registry (for Windows OS).

Since Firefox version 52 was released March 7, 2017, installed NPAPI plugins have not been supported in Firefox, except for Adobe Flash Player. Some of the plugins that no longer load in Firefox, even though they may be installed on your computer, include Java, Microsoft Silverlight and Adobe Acrobat.

Over the past few years, Firefox has implemented various Web APIs so that websites can do the same things they’ve always done without plugins, so you will most likely not notice any change to your browsing experience.

We recommend that you update Firefox if you can.
Every update of Firefox includes important fixes and improvements, including improvements that help keep you secure on the Internet. Using an old version of any browser, including Firefox, puts your personal data and even your computer at risk.
Firefox has expanded to support features that used to require extra plugins. Plugins, on top of that, are also kept up-to-date automatically and managed through blocklisting for added security. So you can stay current with just one Firefox update.
